ADRI strengthened the capacities of families in 42 communities, preparing them to respond to natural disasters and reduce risks in the event of any eventuality. ADRI was in charge of the organization, training and preparation of 42 community disaster reduction coordinators (COLREDES), accrediting and equipping 37 COLREDES and two municipal disaster reduction coordinators (COMREDES) before SECONRED. Forest fires were also addressed by training 216 people organized into commissions to address and liquidate forest fires. This project was coordinated with the National Secretariat for Disaster Reduction (SECONRED) and the National Forest Institute (INAB), benefiting 1,100 families in the municipalities of Senahu and Tucurú, Alta Verapaz, who have knowledge and practices in risk reduction and forest fire management and liquidation. Training was provided to young schoolchildren from five schools, preparing school emergency committees.
