To date, 25 land conflicts have been resolved benefiting 700 rural families who had access to land in a peaceful way and have secured land stability for their families’ future.
In 2013, Alta Verapaz’s Secretariat of Agrarian Businesses registered 252 land conflicts affecting thousands of rural families. Land conflicts interrup economical grow, social harmony and threatens peace. Land conflicts in Guatemala are one of the main causes of political and economic instability and are considered one of the most significant underlying causes of poverty.
In partnership with Mercy Corps, ADRI resolves agrarian conflicts using Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods. This methodology facilitates dialogue and negotiation between the parties and discourages violent demonstrations that only undermine governance and peace.
