Environmental Education

ADRI provides technical assistance to water commissions and community development committees, and builds their capacities on water and solid waste management as well as garbage collection and management. In doing so, we help build a better environment and make better use of natural resources.

Not enough public information has been provided in either urban or rural areas about managing and conserving natural resources; this is why pollution and environmental degradation continue to advance so rapidly. Municipal, Departmental, and national authorities are not doing enough to address the situation, although they understand its cause and effect. The pollution of streams and rivers is affecting local flora and fauna and inappropriate management of solid waste is leading to the proliferation of vectors and other disease-transmitting agents which in turn are increasing health risks throughout the municipality.

ADRI is experienced in engaging local students in communication processes aimed at conserving natural resource and will build on this experience by reaching target populations with cascade training on this topic.

ADRI trained Community Development Councils, environmental commissions, and women’s and youth groups, who became agents of change by conveying key messages and practical community-based actions to come to the rescue of their natural resources. Furthermore, the Project built their decision-making capacities in areas such as cleaning up rivers and streams, properly managing solid waste, increasing the production and protection of forests, preventing the practice of burning off cropland, and improving household cleanliness. These small actions encouraged the Municipal government to also implement activities to help conserve and protect natural resources. In turn, ADRI held campaigns on specific dates, such as International Earth Day, Water Day, and Arbor Day in order to raise awareness and encourage others to join in the movement to recover and rescue the municipality’s renewable natural resources.
